In ancient times, yoga was taught on an individual basis, with an experienced teacher personally guiding each student through practices, principles and philosophies tailored to their unique journey and the student’s specific goals - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It was never about just learning to “put your foot behind your head” or “levitate” and rather Yoga was offered as a foundational pathway to live by in the pursuit of healing, fulfilling one’s purpose and the ultimate goal of happiness and loving the life that you live.

Today, yoga classes primarily occur in groups, where teachers strive to address the collective needs of students or abide by a studio’s rules, regulations and policies. Teachers are not only limited in this setting but many instructors lack the extensive training and personal experience that is required to personally guide others along a true therapeutic path.

As a Yoga Therapist I have 15 years experience teaching, over 1000 certified hours and hold the highest recognized credentials through Yoga Alliance (E-RYT500).

Yoga therapy revitalizes the traditional approach and teachings of Yoga by coming back to the essence of a personalized practice. A yoga therapist integrates modern scientific knowledge of yoga, psychology, personal growth and ultimate mind/body wellbeing with the “old skool” teachings of the ancient yogis.

This adaptation of the practice aims to fully align with each person’s specific requests, personal struggles, medical conditions, limitations, challenges, and goals. It supports every student in their journey towards understanding and embracing themselves and their life more deeply.

What can I expect from a Yoga Therapy Session?

Yoga therapy sessions are unique to YOU and whatever you bring to the moment. As a yoga therapist, my job is to meet you wherever you are at and within the philosophy and framework of the path of Yoga guide you towards achieving your goals - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Unlike yoga classes where a teacher prepares class for a handful of students, yoga therapy sessions are client-directed and led. As a therapist I do not prepare and pre-plan for your session, but rather trust the unfolding nature of our sessions be driven by “what’s happening now” for you in the moment.

This observation of the present moment and a safe, non-judgmental container to explore one’s experience - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually - in both movement and stillness sets Yoga Therapy apart from traditional talk therapy and other modalities.
